The Palm Tree

A pleasant palm grows beside a clear pool
Lush plants and flowers and water so cool
It looks so good to the girl's longing eyes
From a hill far away she starts toward the prize

On her journey she passes an apple tree sweet
"Come taste of my fruit!" it calls with a wink
She giggles and blushes but waves as she says,
"No thanks, but I'll see you later, my friend."

Over the mountains she climbs with great care
She shivers from the touch of the brisk mountain air
The pine tree whispers, "Just rest here a while."
But she continues on her way with a smile.

At last she arrives at the desert below
But nowhere in sight is the oasis' glow
"Oh, how COULD I have been so foolish and blind!"
The tempting mirage had been all in her mind.

Penned by my hand on the 8th of Chronos, in the year 735 AF.
