The cure for foolishness is reason, the cure for hysteria measured consideration. As it is said the cure for the Mysian Rot is striped limes, Royal Lemons, and blood oranges, I will present logic demonstrating the abomination growing on Mhaldor Isle is NOT the blood orange tree of historical note.
Let us consider what we know for certain:
1. The Mysian Rot is said to have been long since eradicated, because the cures were so prolific that citizens from every continent and place were able to easily be immunized.
2. The sapling on Mhaldor Isle was planted by Eoka e'Jahlorien.
3. Eoka e'Jahlorien is a Nihilist, a worshipper of the Mad God.
4. Ashtani, including Eoka, attest that the sapling planted on Mhaldor Isle could not grow anywhere else.
5. The sapling must be fed copious amounts of blood to grow, and be cared for with strict regularity.
What are the arguments that the sapling is a curative? They are as follows:
First, it is an orange tree, fed by blood - hence, "blood oranges".
Eoka (and other Ashtani) say that it is a curative.
What are the arguments the sapling is not a curative? They are as follows:
First, if the sapling needs the special conditions of Mhaldor Isle to grow, presumably that is because of one of two things: the presence of Evil's essence, or the tainting of Sllshya's domain around the Isle. Both of these factors were not present until long after the eradication of the Mysian Rot, so any tree that relies on them to grow cannot be the same kind of tree used to cultivate blood oranges in times long past.
Second, the sapling's need for huge quantities of blood - were there squads of sacrificial bloodletters wandering around watering these oranges for the years it takes them to grow? How many sacrifices, how much blood would have been required to promulgate a readily available cure? How many trees? Without knowing they were a cure, why would trees of that kind have been cultivated in Seleucar?
Third, the aspiration of Nihilists is to bring about the End of Creation. It is what they strive for - not just wait, as they say, but actively seek to bring about. That Nihilists planted this tree, and are seeking with all their might to cultivate this tree and feed its fruit to people argues strongly that its final purpose is furthering the will of the Mad God, and not advancing Creation.
Do not allow yourself to be distracted from searching for a genuine cure by the false allure of the Sapling of Oblivion. The real cure cannot be the fruit of the sapling.
