Hail, those of the Achaea's Health Organisation.
I had gone around asking healers, experts, and other denizens that may know of the cause regarding the Rot many, many months ago, when the more advanced developments of symptoms have yet to appear. I kept these notes to the Seat in case I had received a false diagnoses (again). However, I see that the origin and cure have been leaked as public information, therefore it is only right that I share my notes, however Outdated that they are:
****************************************************************************
After a month of running around since Cassandra's letter regarding the current cure and origin for the disease, I have compiled my notes along with others regarding our current leads and information.
First: We already know the disease; it's the Mysian Rot. An ancient, rare disease that appeared many, many years ago and had seemingly disappeared. All until now. And that the book Cassandra used to get this information is a book called "On the Mysian Rot: Musings From the Field".
What we do know is that there are THREE cures, all of them being very rare citrus:
- Royal Lemon, Epicurus mentions it is a deep purple colour.
- Striped Lime
- Bloody Orange
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have talked with various denizens for information, including our Epicurus, about the Rot and the Citrus. Here can be a summary of what has been conversed:
Epicurus:
- Has eaten multiple of the Royal Lemons, no Striped Limes
- Describes it as too sour to bite into, had a sweetness, could eat them like an orange
- Does not know where it is grown
- Bought it from various fruit sellers, they were rare and pricy
- Last time he bought it was over a thousand years ago
- The Mysian Rot is a slow killing disease, black lips was one of the main symptoms followed by coughing, the resulting in people laying like they were dead while breathing.
- IMPORTANT: One of the rare citrus per person is enough to cure them and make them immune to the disease forever; thus, there is no need to eat multiple to cure oneself.
Travelling Merchants of the Tundra:
- Not fully sure why I asked them but I thought the merchants of the Mertei Memorial Tradepost would know their past sales. Alas, they do not. And reaffirm that lemons do not grow in the Tundra.
Cassandra:
- I had asked her to burrow their copy of "On the Mysian Rot: Musings From the Field". In her words: it is old and damaged, too delicate to loan out.
Mysia, the people:
- Anan, the Mysian Priest, knows much about the Sea, not know regarding the citrus fruit. Also mentions the God-Emperor's archives and libraries under the Sea. While possible to access to attempt and find the book, this seems like a complex process unfit for our current time restraints. I highly suggest we do this as a last resort.
- Steele, the Mysian cook, knows nothing either. ("This isn't Scholar's Haven or some such. Where the hell do you want records to be kept?" is quite an irrefutable point. Um.)
Admiral Kazuya and Taleila discussed with the nearby pirates, it did not seem they were able to squeeze any information. And Greybeard did not answer our calls to him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eoka and Irimon had done well to discuss with the people of Zanzibaar and the Apothecary, of which they themselves went to look in their library regarding the Mysian Rot and here is what they've written:
- The Rot tends to begin in humid environments, like islands or ships.
- The Rot may infest, strangely enough, some varieties of plants.
- The cure is a Striped Lime.
- Once cured, a patient is innoculated forevermore.
We now have information as to how it is spread. And the last line is on par with what Epicurus says regarding immunity from the Rot upon eating the citrus. Unfortunately, they do not know where the Striped Lime can be sourced. They will keep researching for us in the meantime.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is mentioned by SEVERAL denizens that finding the book, "On the Mysian Rot: Musings From the Field", might be crucial, if not, aiding us in finding the locations of these fruits. I will say that the Apothecary mentioned digging though old tomes and scrolls that mentions the Rot, as it is fairly ancient and old. Likewise, Epicurus said if we were to ask somebody about the disease and cure, it would be of his age. So hundreds of years old.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With these notes, I do hope we are a step closer in finding the citrus. Possible theories are floating about, but I do ask that we hold in the speculation until we have more solid notes. I thank those who have been reporting their symptoms or helping along with searching for the cure. As always, please continue to report any findings or symptoms regarding this disease. Thank you for aiding me! May we be freed from this Rot soon.
Penned by my hand on the 18th of Sarapin, in the year 979 AF.
****************************************************************************
Apologies for the length and for any repetitive information. On one hand, we know and have the three cures, however limited they may be. On the other, I do not believe if there's been mention of the tomb or how the Rot spreads, specifically. IF that's any help at all.
Fortunately, these notes will aid us in ridding of this plague once and for all.
