Poetry News Post #2411

Transcience

For everyone we've loved, who has left or gone. This is for those who
are past or fallen, but never forgotten.

Transience

Though you've been gone, our lives still go on
While we gather others to fill the empty space
Left only with the memory of your face

The ties which bind, the things we shared
Are not far from my mind. All those who cared
Are slow to wipe the tear, that traces the cheek
With the cool fear that we will never see you here
Again left only to hope about when you'll return.

The hopes, the fears, those too short years
The time we spent, all of it well meant
Together, unfortunately stopped meaning
That you'd stay with us forever.

The bright laughter which echoes long after
The fond memories, which we held so near
Dim and serve as our only reminder here
Of how we once held you dear.

In your place, regret sits at our table now
We smile, and pretend not to wonder how
We could have made you stay, just another day
Before we go our separate ways

Wherever you are now, I want you to know
I'll always remember you with a smile, all along
You'll always be honoured with a song
Past or fallen, but never forgotten.

Penned by my hand on the 5th of Phaestian, in the year 386 AF.
