Lullabye

You enter with songs in the air
Woven of your sweet breath
And perfumes in your soft hair
And a smile upon rose-lips.
And a moment before the despair
You hum your strange lullaby.

You murmur a soft lullaby,
Sending melody to the air
With songs on the heels of despair
That never may pause for breath.
A smile curls those soft lips
And a fresh wind ruffles your hair.

You laugh, and loosen your hair
Like in dreams after a lullaby
Sprung from a weary mother's lips
And cradled in the cold night air.
You never need pause for a breath
And your face never knows the despair.

You dance in the wake of despair,
Sweet as the jasmine in your hair
And the honey in your breath
As we slip into your lullaby.
You're free as clouds in the air
With a loving smile on your lips.

All who hear you long to taste sweet lips
And, denied, hurry forth to despair
And whisper their longings to the air
Try to forget the perfume in your hair.
Yet you sing that bittersweet lullaby
That steals a bit more each breath.

Each offers to your their last breath
Bittersweet smiles on cold lips
And they learn that dark lullaby
That hounds and compels despair.
Undying jasmine sits pale in your hair
A masking perfume in the air.

Their breath fed to despair,
Your smiling lips and jasmined hair
Guard the lullaby in the still air.
