Re: stance on chaos

Lady Eris,

I have decided to post in My brother's stead, as you seem to have a
dislike for His logic. The recent discourse on the Basilican policy was
created to save those interested the time in looking up previous
missives on similar topics. Incidentally, the stance conveyed could not
have been unheard of, for Servelan herself argued it in the past. This
argument even led to the post you yourself quoted, "The Gods do not need
the Church to battle Chaos." This post, numbered 142 on the public
boards, bears the Logos Himself as author and says exactly, "it is worth
pointing out that the small part of Creation occupied by mortals very
well could be destroyed by Chaos." While the parts of Pentharian's post
dealing with entropy and discord in regards to Creation did indeed refer
to the whole, the later sections and their frequent references to the
mortal reaction to your Chaos obviously meant the part of creation
occupied by mortals. Being that mortals are the ones endangered,
certainly it is understandable that they wish to be involved in possible
prevention. Your own point that Sarapis would not allow a threat to
Creation as a whole to exist in itself proves this is not what was
meant; obviously, no one would doubt His power. Along that line, another
godly realm at an extreme would not be allowed to threaten existence for
the same reason.

Further, there was a distinction made between entropy, discord, and what
you, Eris, represent. The paragraph pertaining to you held this quote:
"The entropy and discord dispersed through Creation is chaos, while the
focussed energies introduced unnaturally to this world are Chaos, that
which is Eris.". The energy which was spread through Creation is not
something the Basilica could seek to reverse, hence our focus is on your
particular influence. Humans were specifically addressed amid this:
"It[Eris] is not the creativity of humans - that came from entropy and
discord, an inherent part of that race which cannot be undone."
Conceding that it cannot be changed would imply we do not seek to do so,
thus separating you from that which affects humans.

You were not referred to as Servelan or the Unnameable in that post, and
let it not seem as if My reference to Servelan's argument in this one
was any further labelling. Indeed, we can abandon such things, and
simply define you by what you do. You are Eris, and you are the one who
encourages the release of the Spawn of the Unnameable Horror, that which
kills the guilty and innocent alike wantonly, that which requires the
lives of children to summon. You are the one who fluxed time to allow
Kasmarkin to be raised, allowing Taug to walk among this land, the demon
prince who deceived the Triumvirate.

As for My brother's 'prejudice', the Basilica has convictions, and such
things inherently imply being judgemental. I am of the same
organization, and I share these beliefs, and so I speak on its behalf to
say: Yes. We are prejudiced against Chaos. We are prejudiced against
that which threatens the well-being of innocents. We do not apologize.
As for the 'stereotypical views of Chaos biased by a historical chaos
that was simply before [your] time', the examples referred to above were
quite recent. Their negative effects cannot be denied.
