Your sins to Hashan pale to what you and those with you who voted to
open the second box have done to your town. From those very early days
you lied to not only the city of Hashan, but to your own citizens. As
the fury grew outside your walls against the actions of that day you
continued to lie and in doing so condemn your citizens to a war that
they all thought was good and just. Even to the end Dresden was willing
to sell Charlotte's soul to Sartan himself to avoid the consequences.
She and those who voted with you Ryvern opened that box. Not Charlotte.
She was just your instrument. All of Shallam could have burned for all
Dresden cared. And it took the narrowing eyes of justice to finally make
you blink. Sins to Hashan? A minor thing compared to the damage you and
yours did to Shallam.
With each lie told you tarnished the jewel more until its light all but
refused to shine. With each day that passed you condemned more and more
of your citizens to death. They died for you. Many fought valiantly
against overwhelming odds until thier backs bowed they could fight no
more. They did this for a cause they believed was good and just. But
they did it for a lie. An illusion. Created to try to save the powerful
few from the reprecussions of a dreadful act. Even when Hashan offered a
way out to save face you refused. 100k in gold each would have ended
this. How inexpensive does that cost sound now? And your secret would
have remained your own.
I beg the citizens of Shallam to replace any who are still on the
council who were either involved with said vote, or who were allied to
Dresden's cause. Sweep the council clean. Start new. Put Shallam back
where it belongs and start to heal. The wounds between our cities will
heal far faster than the wounds caused by those who you trusted. I weep
for you in this.
