The Holocaust of Hashan

Preceding the emergence of Varian, there were two chests that fell from
the sky. When the first was opened, the Chrysalis Basilica was
destroyed. The dire warning on the chest had proven true.

The second chest was inscribed with an even more worrisome warning. I
fought hard in my attempt to prevent the first from being opened.
Unfortunately, emotion clouded my mind and I not only assisted in the
opening of the second, I voted to open it. I was present when it was
opened, and my sins were immediately rewarded by death.

My actions caused many of my fellow citizens to die. My actions
contributed to the deaths of many of Hashan's citizens as well. Worse,
most of the dead had done nothing to me. The city of Hashan had done
nothing to me. I could not know the exact consequences of opening the
chest, but I cannot claim I was unaware of the risk of many dying.

I tender my apologies to Hashan, her citizens, and my own fellows who
were killed. Sin weighs heavily on my heart, and I will never be free
from the stain on my soul. I know this apology was slow in coming, and I
can only say I was blind to my own guilt.
