Quite simply, even if the Gods have tampered with mortal minds and have
attempted to remove memory from it, what exactly can you do about it?
Each and every God is more powerful than all of the mortals of the land
combined. While it is true than man is nothing without the Gods, I
highly doubt that the Gods are nothing without man.

So you see, arguing about what the Gods have done and what they haven't
is rather pointless. Because, if our minds have been tampered with by
the Gods, there really is not much we can do about it, except throw
tantrums, call people names, and perhaps start new wars with this.
However, once again, it seems that Chaos reigns.
