this other, and the gods

While I dont usually disagree with the Divine, as it is not prudent to
do, recent statements have me worried. Now it is understandable that the
HELP AGATHEIS scroll might have been altered but Events post 29 talks of
Phaestus being released from his hammer. Parts have been removed for
length, but the relevent paragraphs are as written:

Fern soon revealed that the object she had found was the Hammer of
Phaestus, the traditional symbol, and literal hammer, of the God.
Further, she told of visions she had begun receiving upon picking up the
hammer. Visions of a group of magi, and of a unicorn in a forest, and of
stone monoliths. Deciding that she must follow the call of these
visions, Fern and Orina called upon the assistance of many of their
Shallamese and Hashanite friends.

Linus, Chambourd, Xar, Yang, Xanthos, Feliss, Orez, and, at the last,
Calla, opened channels to the Elemental planes, and focused their power
on the unicorn. Imbued with this immense power, the unicorn touched its
horn to the Hammer, causing a great explosion of sparking and a rumbling
throughout the land, followed by the joyful re-appearance of Phaestus!

It seems that Phaestus had been busy forging a special piece of armour
for Himself, and had been doing some drinking in the meantime, and had
just forgotten about everything else. All the power being focussed on
His hammer awakened Him.

While this does not mention this 'other' it does mention Phaestus being
trapped and subsequently released from His hammer.

As for the dissappearance of Syvelium, i too remember this guild tutor
and am curious why the either: 1. the Divine are lying to mortals and
claiming he never existed 2. the Divine's collective memories have been
altered, which is a terrifying prospect or 3. Almost every single mortal
in Achaea had been tricked into believing a being existed that never
did.

I believe the first option to be proposterous, as I dont see why the
divine would lie to mortals. The latter two, however would only be made
possible by a powerful being indeed. To either be able to change the
memories of the Gods or of all the Mortals, or both, would require much
strength.

Now, on the the important question: Why would a being, be it this
'other' which i've heard report of, or something/someone else want to
change the minds of the mortals or Deities of Achaea? This question is
what bothers me most, for it seems to me that the Garden outright
disbelieves any claims by mortals about Syvelium or this 'other' and
mortals have trouble believe that their own memories have been changed
or that the gods memories have been altered

I believe that question is the one that needs to be answered, as it
would be most revealing to this whole matter. As we have most of the
facts, as we see them, I say its time to move on to why something would
do this, and what would this thing have to gain?

If anyone has answers to these questions I'll be glad to hear them,
