A letter to the people

We live in wicked times, my friends. The servants of Aegis and Sartan
hold Ashtan in a vicelike grip, and they rape and plunder the lands,
soaking the ground in the blood of the people, YOUR blood, for the sake
of conflict itself. No longer do we war for a reason, we only slaugh-
ter each other repeatedly, with the innocent often getting in the way.

There are also those who fight alongside the servants of Aegis and
Sartan, those who have even less cause to commit these atrocities, but
for friendship's sake. Does your conscience cry out each and every time
you tear a man, a woman, or a child apart? No? Do you feel as if you
are at the brink of the Abyss, ready to fall at any moment?

Faith is a wonderful virtue. However, one should be careful of that which
you place your faith in, lest it be used against you, leaving you only a
haunted shell of a person, to be tossed aside when spent. There is a rea-
son that you feel vaguely unsatisfied after each bloody atrocity. Soon,
the blood and the death and the senseless slaughter will get old.

It would be wise to keep your hearts and minds open to the words of the
Holy Codex.

Penned by my hand on the 9th of Valnuary, in the year 270 AF.
