Ryvern made a statement, and it consists of sound principles. Zero made his own statement, but the part that interests me most is where Zero made the following statement:
"Mortalkind has yet to develope a third option, unless you count anarchy."
I'm writing to present your third option. I'm offering knowledge of the way in which a pack of wolves operate, I'm not suggesting we should adopt the same, nor am I suggesting it would work for us, or even that it is better than anything we have now. I'm just offering it for knowledge's sake.
Quite simply, there are no rules. A wolf is not required to obey any other wolf. Yet they operate as a force of nature, in unity. How so?
There are no rules, but there are two underlying principles:
1) If a wolf compromises the welbeing of the pack, then said wolf will be hurt.
2) If a wolf fails to pay a stronger packmate the proper amount of respect, then said wolf will probably be hurt.
Neither is a rule, if a wolf disrespects a bigger wolf, its up to the bigger wolf to do whatever the bigger wolf feels nessessary. If the bigger wolf goes beyond that which is nessessary, this could be construed as violating the first principle. Wolves respect stronger wolves because they TRULY respect them, generally its not a fascade, but if this isnt so, they are free to express their feelings but are aware of the following two things:
1) They must suffer the consequences of all their actions.
2) Especially if any actions violate the first principle.
This is only my interpretation of what I have observed, I'm sure there's more to it, and its very possible I've even got some of it wrong. Who can know the minds of animals, after all?
Caled
P.S. Zero... your three commandments weren't meant to sound hypocritical, they were an attempt at sardonic humour... and yeah, I did chuckle at them, especially number 3. Not that I'm saying you're right... just that it was funny *grin*
