Shut up you... what do you know about law and... just kidding.
Two interesting things about the subject in my opinion- the value of written law as compared to unwritten law, which is generally what we have in Ashtan.
A wise man once said, if your laws are set in stone, the people will obey the letter of them and not the spirit, and in doing so become evil and the laws unrespected and weak. So, have simple and mostly unwritten laws, deciding things on a case by case basis. This is the best way to do things.
On the other hand, if your laws are not written and set in stone, then you had better be good friends with the judge.
From what I saw when I lived in Shallam as a young man and from what I have continued to see from the outside looking in, the Shallamites and Hashanites will bend and break their own laws for their own purposes and try to deny it. Ashtan of course isn't any better, except... we don't have any written laws to break. We admit and revel in our self-serving ways and while life can get ugly because of it, it works.
Unwritten laws that we know won't be completely effective? Or a system that lies to itself and those who work within it? Mortalkind has yet to develope a third option, unless you count anarchy.
Also, the Church Codex says that good is an absolute, and that they are the good. That the concept that was is "good" varies from person to person is a lie.
I know the topic is quite dead but to those of you who haven't yet, give those few lines some thought and maybe you'll see why so many people have left your organization.
Lastly... isn't ten commandments a bit much? Why don't you just have three, here I will write them for you, I believe that just this many can sum up your philosophy for you.
1. Ignorance is strength.
2. Hate is faith.
3. We are justice.
P.S. Fangelor, I don't believe I've seen any more Rajamala skin blankets up for sale in your shop. I hope I didn't come on too hard on you about them, please start selling them again as I know you have them, I want to be able to use them against your city.
