What criteria did you use to so quickly determine that rats are
not sentient, yet imps and pixies are?

There is, as I remember, some notable of Achaea that proclaims
himself the "Protector of Rats". Were he more like others in his
dedication to this role, he would be travelling about, striking
down anyone who dared to molest the innocent rats of the cities.
