The fact still remains that a _shrine_ was constructed. Regardless of the reasons behind its creation, a shrine is a structure erected by those who are devoted to the Gods benevolent to the Church and do so to honour those Gods. Thus, if the Church sanctioned a shrine's destruction, I am prone to think that the Church is becoming selective about what it holds "sacred" and only adopts ethos, symbols and rites, if it suits them. By allowing _any_ shrine to fall into disuse and disrepair the Church is ignoring one of their important duties as the acknowledged "Keepers of the Shrines."
