War on Meropis

Sir Kresslack,
Your passion is evident, but much of what you have written assumes
intentions and motives that do not exist. I have no interest in trading
insult for insult. Instead, I will state the record plainly for those
who have not witnessed it themselves.
The Countess did not claim what was occupied, nor was land seized by
force. The territory was purchased at auction from Delos. The County was
founded upon barren stone and scrubland where no settlement had stood
for generations. Empty of inhabitants. Empty of life or claimant. Each
step was documented and declared openly.
To call that theft is to suggest that no mortal may ever build without
begging permission from every wandering voice in Meropis. And you, Sir,
conveniently forget that Ser Aerek consulted you on the very matter of
borders before any announcement was made. A convenient detail to leave
behind with the rest of the truth.
I have spoken with you many times throughout this matter, Sir, and you
assured me that your greatest concern was the defense of your brethren.
I met you in their tents. I shared with you hope for a more peaceful
resolution. The Countess withdrew her claim to within her walls at your
request, and yet still your allies march hungry for more than the
concessions they demanded.
Even now, it was not the Countess who struck first. You and your allies
did. Assassins were sent. Our gatekeeper, Althira, was slain repeatedly
over the span of days. I myself was attacked without provocation. Our
visitors were assaulted. The lives of our citizens were taken more than
once. I hold you responsible for the actions of those you stand beside.
You speak of threats yet ignore the violence dealt by the very hands you
march with.
We can spare ourselves the theatrics of any inevitable response
containing one of the following:
- I am not responsible.
- I did not ask them to do that.
- I do not control their actions.
- I am not in charge.
You began this call for allies. You are responsible for their actions. I
hold you and your honour accountable.
