A refresher on what exactly Chaos is and how it affects Creation would do all of you a great deal of good. Additionally, remember that Nihilism, Chaos, and the political sphere of Ashtan are in fact very different things. - Historically this is untrue, especially when in times such as now when one religious sect (or in the past a certain guild) controls a great deal of Government positions. The purge of Erisians? The switch from the City of Freedom to the Seat of Chaos? The City of Freedom identity was largely itself in part to a number of Vastarians, at least as far as the books suggest.

The Archon Ascendant is quite miffed that everyone assumes he's a filthy Cultist before even shaking his hand. - Perhaps this might be largely down to the fact that he spent most of his life as a Cultist before relatively recently renouncing such beliefs? A fact that for some reason you declined to publicise here. No matter. He was quite the supporting role in the earlier days of the Cult, it seems. With that being said, it is also notable that given the current members of Ashtan's government he is at the very least an apologist of the Cult's cause, if not directly complicit. If he truly wishes to no longer be mistaken for a Cultist then my advice would be to stop consorting with said Cult.

Or maybe even ask one of the many capable Ashtani scholars privately, - From what I have seen of your city so far the list of competent scholars within your walls begins and ends with you. Maybe Grandue at a push if you can stomach him for long enough to get a straight answer.

Largely the point about Nihilism and Chaos being two different things was exactly the point I was trying to make. That the ending of the paths are mutually exclusive. Under Nihilist rule all promises of Dominion would be entirely worthless on the basis that having Dominion over nothing isn't exactly ideal. That said, historically the Cult has been known for some more... spurious alliances in the past, so I suppose defrauding a mere city would be child's play to them given their Dark origins.

As for stealing books? That sort of thing would only be possible were a prominent occultist and high ranking Cult member to leave their house unprotected and book collection wide open to such things. Surely we all know that would never happen...

Right?

Yours guiltlessly
