Caliph Wyntersol,
While your recent post comes as no surprise, given Shallam's history
with the Qashar, I still find it disappointing and somewhat saddening.
With Shallam so quick to turn their back on the Qashar, do you also seek
to absolve yourselves of your own responsibility in the formation of the
group? You publicly denounce them, while you still use them, and you
continue to overlook the simple fact that, without Shallam's continued
fall into obscurity, the Qashar never would have become the necessary
evil it is.
I understand, and as an outsider I support, the visions Shallam's
leadership has for the city; but I find it cowardly in the extreme for
you to continue to make the Qashar the scapegoat for your own failures.
Had Shallam not so defiantly resisted the rule of people who, as you
say, share the Qashari idea of fighting Chaos and Evil, but sought to do
so in a manner much easier to swallow, the situation would never have
become so dire. It was Shallam who fought so hard against its own
ideals, causing this splinter group to form.
Simply put, had Shallam not fallen, the Qashar never would have risen.
Of course, this says nothing for the continued inability of the various
Caliphs and Archprelates who, while claiming the Qashar go against the
ideals they claim to espouse, do nothing to attempt to hinder them or
rein them in. Indeed, it's noticeable to all that you still actively
promote the group by allowing and encouraging its defence of your city
while you publicly attempt to distance yourself from them.
I of course don't blame you for this - Shallam does, it is plain to see,
need the Qashar right now - but I am dismayed to see that your actions
continue to fail to back up your words. I was many things when I led
Shallam as her Sultan, and then her first Caliph, but I tried never to
be a hypocrite.
It is sad that even those basic standards are slipping once again.
With disappointment,
Sir Silas Maynard
