Childish games

Greetings, Sapience

What I write here is for all to know, but is meant specifically for the
eyes of the one -be this a person or an organization- who sent me a
letter recently.

Some time ago, I was skimming through a few old, dusty tomes, and came
across a reference to how Eleusis changed from a small peaceful village
into the city-state it is now. As it was portrayed in the book,
Covenant, with his Sentinels, invaded the village and all but chased out
the rightful leaders at spearpoint. Curious about the negative way in
which it was portrayed, I asked around about it. A few months later,
someone was lamenting the fact the Eleusis, these days, enemies innocent
people at whim. I jokingly, and among friends commented something along
the lines of "perhaps it is time someone freed Eleusis from its
oppressors and gave it back to their rightful owners".

Recently I recieved an unsigned letter in which I was asked if I had any
interest in joining a renegade group that was after just that. It did
not contain many details, only this question, very little background
information and instructions on how to contact them through an anonymous
letter placed in a remote location at a specific time. He, she or they
claim that a small but powerful core is already in place, and the
secretive organization is expanding slowly but surely. I got the
impression that several other people had recieved these letters at tips
from observers who believed these people might go along with the
conspiracy.

I post this here not out of any animosity towards this organisation or
good will towards Eleusis. I make it no secret that I am beginning to
despise Eleusis as it is today, although for lack of any more proof or
information on the invasion, those feelings are born more of pity than
of hate, and not cause for any offensive action on my part against
Eleusis. The simple reason is, I cannot be bothered to travel to the
designated, secluded location far away from my home, only to deliver a
message saying "get back to me when you're finished playing games and
prepared to reveal yourselves and your intentions."

To those it concerns:
1) I will make no decision based on the little nuggets of vague
information I have been given, and 2) I do not deal with liars.

If you are as strong as you suggest, you are quite ready to step into
the public eye and the former will see some improvement. If not, I will
assume the latter to be true. I will not say I've any particular
interest in participating in this conspiracy of yours, but were you able
to offer the right kind of incentive, I suppose anything is possible.

P.S. Having found a recent interest in learning at least some modern
history, I would appreciate a hint at where I might learn more about the
founding of Eleusis as a city-state.
P.P.S. If this letter was but a joke (which seems quite possible if not
probable) ... screw you all.

Penned by my hand on the 16th of Scarlatan, in the year 495 AF.
