Sultan,
We are both, above all, politicians. I understand the need to bluster
and posture for public consumption; and you are clearly an expert.
However, as I have explained to you with great patience (for there is no
slower student than the one blinded by certainty), Hashan has never
chosen Chaos; we merely reserve the right of our citizens to make their
own choice 'twixt Chaos and Order; Darkness and Light; Good and Evil.
If, in consequence, the Light of Devotion is removed from the Crown by
no-one's choice but yours, it seems a little churlish to blame us for
the resultant darkness, does it not?
If you wish to discuss a mending of relations you have known for years
the path to that goal. Whatever your theological dispute with the
Revolutionaries of Chaos, now the Order of Oblivion, they have always
abided by our laws and respected our sovereignty. Laws and sovereignty
which were trampled when you and your band of thugs entered our
territory to commit the ultimate act of ignorance and cowardice: the
burning of a library.
Your husband had the good sense to make his apologies, and pay
recompense, for that act of disrespect before our assembled citizenry
(even if the promises he made there were later broken). We still await
yours, Sultan.
If, in the meantime, an individual here or there gets a little -
boisterous (as Shallamites have indeed done within our walls in recent
years) that is, perhaps, not unexpected. I had no idea that Hashani
military might was so feared that a single raider necessitated a public
post and a completely new security policy. I must congratulate the
Legion on their newfound status.
Regards,
Saltaern Sioraiocht, Seneschal.
Penned by my hand on the 2nd of Aeguary, in the year 488 AF.
