The lost archangel.

Gatekeeper of the Elysians,

I extend unto you the collected condolences of the citizenry of Mhaldor.
Only due to circumstances most dire were the soldiers of Evil marshalled
to storm your valley, to subdue you by force of arms, to bind and
capture your minion, the archangel Xadaphon. Only for a cause most noble
was the creature, so pure and Good and devout, maimed and crippled and
taken into the City of Evil, humiliated and broken. Only to prevent
calamity from befalling the whole of Sapience was he convinced to
sacrifice himself and step bodily into the Inferno, a place wholly
inhospitable to his kind, and lose himself among horrors indescribable.
It is truly a regrettable loss.

The angel's screams of agony were by this made no less exquisite.

Perhaps the knowledge that you were unable to keep safe your Celestial
friend weighs heavy upon your heart. Perhaps you suffer pangs of guilt.
I can only hope that it is so. Rest assured, however, that though ye did
fail in protecting Xadaphon, ye will not forever bear the survivor's
burden. When next the servants of the Lords do visit your doorstep, ye
may expect to face a similar fate. Trust not in your compatriots to
defend you; well ye have seen how futile is their Valour.

Until next we meet.

Father Nocroth dis Serenath
Messiah of the Damned
The Blood Congregation

Penned by my hand on the 24th of Phaestian, in the year 487 AF.
