Greetings to the City of Hashan, the city that claims itself a Crown.
I have been a defender and ally of your city for half a century now, I
have slain countless of your enemies as they attacked your citizens. I
have dwelt with the physical and verbal abuse for my actions in helping
a city that was seen as reviled. I was helping your city before Mhaldor
cared one wit about you and started defending. Even then, when your
other allies were people who seek my blood, I still fought beside you to
defend the City of Hashan. I have weathered countless accusations, foul
words, and wiped spit from my face several time all in order to remain a
valiant defender of Hashan.
I have denied contracts on those of Hashani citizenry, I have not hunted
the various pitiful thieves who cower behind your walls, all in respect
and willingness to lay my life down as an ally of the City of Hashan.
In return, I have received nothing but grief, I have entered your city
and been attacked by your own citizens, claiming I was an enemy, when I
am clearly in the Hashan Legion and on the lists of allies. I have been
accused of traightorship, as I defended your city even when I counted
myself a member of the Church. The history between us is long and great
Hashan.
Sadly, it is ending. Recently I have been made to feel utterly unwelcome
in the City of Hashan, until someone slays a citizen of course, but in
times of peace I am encouraged to not be in the city, as if I, a
stalwart defender, am somehow a threat. I have ignored this, I have
ranted and vented, I have spoken with your leaders and been ignored. But
I have hidden my grief and continued to serve, continued to respond to
the alert.
Then, I was attacked by a citizen of yours, a fellow Mark whom I have
let keep his head simply because of his citizenship. An individual upon
whom I have denied several contracts and canceled the first one I took
after a long discussion upon which Hashan emphatically said that allies
and citizens shall never ever cause the death of each other, regardless
of reason. I accepted that. Then the tables are turned and I am attacked
by this individual, who simply grins and shrugs it off when questioned.
Before I could even let that slide, a Hashan citizen decides to take
matters into his hands and effectively end the relationship that we have
held together for so long. Fen, the same individual mentioned above,
decides to raid the City in which I call home. He takes the life of my
son, uses a group of my enemies to attack my city and thinks nothing of
it. This is unacceptable. The Vows which I swear to Cyrene, the oaths
that I take to defend this city to the death and beyond, are much
stronger than a giving only relationship with the City of Hashan. I will
no longer remain an ally of a city that completely restricts my job as a
Champion, that heaps abuse upon those that would defend it, that
complains if I dont like everyone that they beg to defend, then insults
me and accuses me of random violations every time I am near the city. I
can no longer justify laying down my life to defend a city that allows
its citizens to come to my home and slay my family.
This is a formal farewell, Hashan, as I hereby remove myself from the
Hashani Legion, and ask that you no longer consider me an ally.
Hopefully Fen is strong enough to defend you against the enemies that
raid, the very same enemies that assisted him in attacking my city.
Might the Moon's light illuminate the rot within.
