It's nice when a child of Darkness speaks so candidly about Twilight's
realm. The entirety of your essay is fair. You state facts, and I am not
going to disagree with your interpretation of Darkness-- in fact,
there's a lot of truth in it. You are careful to qualify your
statements, which makes you very convincing.
But there is more, of course, that makes Darkness so dangerous to
mortality. Darkness is about stratification, about the "unknown" as you
write. I have many followers of Darkness that claim to have reached some
level of "Awakening," or an enlightened state. Yet none I have found
that can explain very fine details. It is merely something someone must
experience firsthand, by following a particular process that they too
never share.
And what does that process entail? Well, as you indeed write, it can be
many things, apparently. I do not propose to understand this process
(and I remain doubtful that it exists, despite searching for it for
centuries from the outside). However, all attempts at explaining the
process share one thing in common-- in order to reach Awakening, ye must
have a dedication to the Dark Family and to Lord Twilight.
Darkness is about about power and about control through the manipulation
of information and people. During the days when Hashan was ruled by
Darkwalkers, or the days when the Dawnstriders were ruled by
Darkwalkers, or even the days of Death's Heart, and from whatever
limited conversations a mortal like me could have with Lord Twilight, I
was able to make one strong observation about Darkness.
Darkwalkers create obfuscation. Darkness claims supreme knowledge and
power, yet keeps that knowledge and power with Lord Twilight and his
followers. Any attempts to understand Darkness -without- walking in
Darkness are impossible for two reasons.
a) the texts and philosophy of darkness are DESIGNED with the purpose of
being meaningless and incomprehensible.
b) in order to understand the alleged meaning, acquire power, and reach
"Awakening", ye must join the Dark family.
In addition, those not in the Dark family are excluded forever from this
supreme knowledge and power.
I ask ye Darkwalkers-- what is this supreme knowledge and power that
cannot be explained to a common mortal like me? Why must I be "special"
to understand? Why must I be a Darkwalker?
