First Arcane Caro-Kann Tournament

Written by: Tyndaryn Den'atha, Arcane Hunter

The Arcane Kindred is holding our first ever world-wide tournament of
Caro-Kann's Game, also known as King's Chess. The tournament will be a
single-elimination ladder tournament in organization. This means that
upon losing a game, a player is eliminated from the tournament. However,
there will be a variation made upon this theme, in order to allow
players the opportunity to face an opponent in a match of reasonably
equal skill.
The tournament will proceed as follows:
In the first round of the tournament, players will be randomly matched
without regard to skill or any other factor. It is in this first round
that the playerbase will be split according to whether they win or lose.
Those that win in the first round will be sorted in to a tournament
labelled for the purposes of this explanation as the 'expert
tournament'. Those that lose will be placed in another ladder, called
the 'novice tournament'.
Once all games in the first round are complete, and players are sorted
into their respective ladders, players within each tournament will be
matched up, and the next round of games will commence. All games within
a round must be completed before the next round can begin.
Once each ladder has been eliminated down to one victorious player, the
remaining player is declared the winner of that tournament. The winner
of the expert tournament will receive a prize of fifteen (15) credits,
and the winner of the novice tournament will receive ten (10) credits.
Entrance rules:
The fee to enter the tournament will be in the form of 2000 gold
sovereigns, deposited into the account of 'Arcanekindred'. Enemies of
the city of Cyrene or of the House of the Arcane Kindred, will not be
permitted to participate in the tournament, and any deposits made to the
'Arcanekindred' account by enemies of the city or of the House will not
be refunded.
Rules of play:
When a game is to begin, TELL a tournament official (myself at the
moment, unless others are appointed) that the game is beginning, and the
number of the game. Play the game as normal. When the game ends, DO NOT
CONCEDE THE GAME. Both players are to TELL an official that the game is
complete, so that the official can verify the winning player, and record
it.
No player is to make use of any skills to influence the outcome of the
game, such as forcing their opponent to make a move, or illusioning
another move. Spectators are permitted, but no aid of any kind is to be
given. If a player is found guilty of unfairly influencing the outcome
of the game, the offending player will be expelled from the tournament,
and the opponent will be declared the winner by default.
In the event of a stalemate or a draw of any kind, the match will be
declared void, and a new match will begin. This will continue until
there is a clear winner. In the event of a suspected stalemate, TELL an
official, and the game will be analyzed. If the positions on the board
are exactly repeated three times in a row, the game is declared a draw
by repetition, and will be voided and replayed in the same manner as
with a stalemate.
The tournament will last for one year, from the 1st of Miraman, 407, to
the 1st of Miraman, 408, and all those participating must have made
their intentions known and paid their fee prior to the start of the
tournament.
Please note that if participation is not sufficient to justify the
holding of the tournament, the tournament will be cancelled, and full
refunds given to those participants that have already paid the fee. We
want enough people in this tournament to make it fun, challenging, and
worthwhile for all involved.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please direct them to
me. Thank you, and good luck to those who participate!

Penned by my hand on the 12th of Sarapin, in the year 407 AF.
