The Ownership of Patterns/Designs

Greetings Sapience!

It is rare that I post, but Lord Sigao's post has spurred me to bring a
small request to the attention of our fine Realms.

There are many in the world who are tradesmen and some who aren't. For
those who are, such trade is likely their livelihood and they put their
heart and soul into what they do.

So for those who are of the trades to create _original_
patterns/schematics (jewellers and tailors, mostly) I would like to
beseech your honour with the following requests -

o If you should ever see a pattern that is attractive to you, please do
not simply work straight from that pattern unless you change the ENTIRE
thing. Please ask the OWNER and CREATOR of the pattern first. This is
polite as well as honourable.

o If you wish to keep your works your own, one way to do it is to put a
small 'trademark' on your item, such as your initials or a personal
symbol. I know of many tradesmen who already do this, myself included.

o If you should ever come across a pattern/schematic that is not yours,
the polite thing to do is to post or send out word that you have found
it. Best especially if you know it was stolen simply for the fact that
someone else wished to own it without doing the work to create it
themselves.

This is not much in way of requests, and I know very well that we can
all create whatever we want even if it's simply copying someone else's
design right from their own garment. However, when you are a tradesmen,
your designs are all you have and so your livelihood depends on your own
originality and the common courtesy of your fellow tradesmen.

So I beseech you all, that if you have any honour or respect, please do
not steal, copy or 'borrow' anyone else's designs without their EXPLICIT
consent.

Any questions or comments can be directed to me via letter or message,
as I may (most likely) not answer them here.
