The Beauty of Knighthood

The beauty of Knighthood comes not from wearing a title, or having a
title bestowed upon you. All of you know this.

Knighthood is a quality of a person. It's a measure of respect given out
by peers who admire the qualities you possess. When those you respect,
admire, and look up to, turn around one day and laud you, praise you,
and recognize your abilities and accomplishments-- that is the happy
feeling of achieving true Knighthood.

When I see someone titled "Sir," a part of me recognizes that the title
is meaningless. All the words "Sir" or "Lady" convey is that a great
individual cared so much about the cause of his or her peers, cared so
much about bettering themselves, that they were humbled when the title
was given to them.

You -must- be humbled by your peers to be a Knight. I am not worthy to
be a Knight. I was never Knighted. I lived long before infernals or
runewardens, and never travelled a "path" to Knighthood. I'm often very
embarassed when the youth in my guild or even complete strangers greet
me with a "Sir." I admire the humility of these others in their belief
that I am somehow better than they are. In turn, I am humbled that they
think that there are some aspects of my own being that they strive to
emulate.

For the sake of those wide-eyed, humble people that look up to a person
just because he is a Sir or Lady, do not vainly take upon the title of
Knighthood upon yourself. Please don't betray their trust, in Knights,
and in you. The true measure of Knighthood is character. It is not the
title ye possess.
