Hingar, a Vertani diplomat of House Kortul

There is something, Hingar, that I cannot seem to get over. I understand
that you now express regret where once you held blind malice and
overreaction. I understand that you are apparently taking steps to amend
this, in the form of the reconstruction of Thera. Take none what follows
as accusation, but merely logical interpretation of facts as they have
been presented to me.

When the corpse of Ariel was first tossed to us, she was examined and
appeared to have suffered burns similar to that of ordinary fire, as
opposed to the devastating heat of the meteor shower. Upon inquiry into
why you would possess her corpse in the first place, your response was
simply that she "suffered greatly" before she met her demise. Many bore
witness to this, and as such these facts are irrefutable.

My question is this: How did she come into your captivity, then? She
could not have been spirited away to some extraplanar locale long before
the village's destruction, as the adventurers Latus, Dyzanru, and
Veldrin all stood by her side as the meteor shower screamed down from
above. The obvious choices that present themselves, then are as follows:
Either you summoned her, on the scant millisecond before Thera was wiped
from this planet, to save her from an instant death and deliver her
deliberately into a world of hatred and pain. Or, she did indeed return
to life, by will of the Logos yet in your captivity, where you proceeded
to torture her unto death a second time. A salvation from instant death
into torture and unnecessary pain, or a return to life, only to be
followed by horror and desecration? Both equally cruel. Remember,
though, that I do not accuse you of any one of these. Perhaps there is a
third alternative, to which you may enlighten us.

You express sorrow for the hasty destruction of Thera, and yet
afterward, while on topic of your proposed rebuilding of the village,
referred to the dwellings that once stood there as "rudimentary chicken
huts." Perhaps they were not the sprawling systems of towers and flying
buttresses that Sorathia might bear - I would not know, having never
visited any one region of Vertan - but the Therans were content with
them. Granted, it may be that I merely misinterpret the gist of the
comment, in a fashion that I or any mortal may err, but the phrase
"rudimentary chicken huts" does not sound to me as being overly
sorrowful or guilt-laden. Again, please remember that I am only
interpreting these things as I see them, and I request of you not to
think me simple if things have indeed happened otherwise.
A final note: Please do not misinterpret this post as antagonistic
rhetoric, as you have interpreted others to be, as I truly do seek
answers. If any malice seeps in, rest assured that it is unintentional.

Not simple, just curious
