Greetings everyone,
I'm just going to ramble on with my opinions as to the matter.
-- Event: The Vertani arrive and start exploring
Alright, Sapience, and the cities within it are considered to be the
homes of the various races that have inhabited it for many years.
Sapience is our home and our cities are a smaller but more valuable
'home' to many of us.
In our culture 'uninvited' guests who being exploring our territory, our
home, without permission of any kind, signals the 'threat' response in
many people.
I remember the Vertani visiting cities, noting the defenses, and going
about their business. Trespassing as one might call it. I heard many
attempts to communicate included in such the request to leave our land.
We were ignored and the Vertani continued to go about their business.
These actions made some of us feel threatened and lead a few of us to
kill these 'trespassers'. What happens next? Armed explorations begin to
occur. Now, not only do we have trespassers but armed ones.
This sparks even more worry to the intentions of these new people and
even more deaths to occur.
Now Hingar, this is how our culture thinks and behaves. I didn't agree
that you were a threat but I could see how some might think this way.
Our customs were unfamiliar to you and your people died because of it.
Of course, the deaths were not right, but can you respect the principles
our people have held for a thousand years? Fear drives life...
-- Event: The Vertani demand the ousting of the murderers from their
home cities
This was a little demanding, don't you think? The cities try and trust
the judgement of it's citizens on the principle that EVERYONE makes
mistakes. Killing your people was wrong, flat out and simple. But would
exiling the culprit have solved anything? Would you exile your son
because he was homosexual and you felt that his sexual status was wrong
in some way?
-- Event: The destruction of Thera...
Rash? Unjust? Murder? A whole town murdered because they defened their
allies when they were attacked. You protect the citizens of El'jazira
and Tasur'ke but we do not annihilate your way of life.
-- War
We can't continue to just senselessly kill like this. Thousands have
died and what do we have to show for it? Peace? Harmony? Nothing. Just
the smoledering ruin of a once prosperous town and countless Vertani
corpses. We can't bring back your dead, nor can you bring back the dead
from Thera. But is peace too difficult? Stop killing each other, how
hard can that be?
