Be greetings to all and many happy days, the following be an essay
written by the Kees.

After listening to some talk on this, we would likes to discuss the
subject of mortal hatred rather than mortal love as was the topic of
discussion in the recent sermon by Vicar Herenicus. Mortal hatred is
expounded by those that would call themselves evil. A passionate and
driven emotion it often leaves the individual incapable of logical
thought and therefore is a perfect tool for the followers of Sartan.
Note that we must use the word 'tool' here for those that would follow
the teachings of Sartan must rid themselves of hatred just as they rid
themselves of conscience. Perhaps you are thinking that hatred would be
encouraged in such a society but if we look closely at the seven truths
we will see that such strong emotions are merely a weakness of the
mortal mind and must be purged. Instead those who follow the truths
breed the hatred in others.
To encourage hatred in others is to gain some degree of control over
them. You cannot hate without first feeling intense emotion for the
person or object of your hatred. In other words you must 'care' about
your subject enough to hate them. Once we recognize this within
ourselves it becomes easier to rid yourself of that emotion.
For most the easiest transfer is to a state of apathy as long as you are
able to rationalize the feelings within yourself. Understanding that
someone is attempting to foster hatred within you will bring about the
desire to thwart their efforts. To not allow that hatred to take a hold
may seem hard at first especially when the crimes against you may be
great. The victory for you is to feel nothing. Though this may seem like
an impossible feat, to feel nothing means that their acts have had no
effect on you, they cannot reach you. They cannot hurt you.
It is important to note: We must not mistake apathy for inaction.
Without due punishment for those that commit crimes against us is to
also grant them victory. You do not, however, need hatred to bring about
justice. In fact justice requires a separation of emotion so that a
rational and logical punishment can be decided. If emotions rule us then
we no longer seek justice, we seek revenge and slip into the dangerous
realm of Lady Keresis. Returning evil with hatred bred acts is merely
returning evil with evil and will merely strengthen its hold.
For the followers of the light, a more difficult path can be taken.
Instead of apathy toward those who would breed hatred, the emotion they
would bring out in us can translate into pity. Knowing within ourselves
that the followers of evil are inherently self destructive we can
understand that the path they have chosen is merely misguided. Pity is a
frustrating emotion indeed for any who would seek to control you with
hatred. Not only do they lose all influence over you, they are instead
faced with one who shows an inner strength that they themselves preach.
In their failure to subjugate you they become the victims of their own
truths and must continue to crash against your wall of pity or admit
defeat. In this way not only do you defeat them emotionally but you
offer them a glimpse at the real power of the light for this is the
strength we build in even our youngest members. What hope do the slaves
of evil have if even the leaders of Sartan cannot turn your heart?
It is with this feeling of pity that we can build a pillar of support
and guidance. When you no longer feel anger or hatred toward those that
you would call enemy you can take it on yourself to teach and offer an
alternative. This is something we can all do, young or old and this is
the greatest strength of all. Those who would walk in the light - guard
yourselves against hatred for it is as dangerous to you as any wielded
sword.
