The Vertani War

Ixidor while I applaud you on your attempt at diplomacy, the fact that
you are speaking for the Vertani and they are not speaking for
themselves again is a bit vexing. Before they spoke through surrogates
because they felt that learning our tongue to speak to us would be
demeaning to them. "Using a non-Vertani translator has proven difficult,
so I have taken upon myself the distasteful task of learning your
language of Achaean." (Hingar, Public 13777). We learned his language in
an attempt to speak with him, yet he insults ours when he feels forced
to do so in return.

As for Ashtan's current standing, we attempted negotiations with them
and were rebuffed at each attempt, and the killings became mutual on
both sides. The formal declaration of war was finally brought about when
we returned the sentiment and both became hostile towards one another.

Another matter, after killing the entirety of Ashtan in retaliation of
Szanthax and Xtassy's actions, the Vertani sent in Beserkers and priests
to proselytize within our walls. Then the priests disappeared and Hingar
stated we slaughtered them. None within Ashtan touched the priests.

The sudden change of heart from the Vertani is something I'm leery of,
so forgive me if I refuse to take your word when you state they wish you
to broker peace for them. When humility finally takes them and they
begin treating us as equals, and speak for themselves on their own
behalf with us, then I may take it seriously.
