A missive from Overlord Estan

Hello. I have agreed to serve as translator for Overlord Estan of the
Vertani Empire, as he wants to explain why the Vertani have erected a
fortress around their portal. I just want to first add that in my
dealings with Overlord Estan, Ive found him to be an honourable and
kind individual. I think we need to understand that the Vertani came
here in peace and have been attacked on multiple occasions, while taking
no revenge beyond defending themselves during the attacks. I also think
we have a lot to gain from the Vertani, in knowledge and wealth, and
its well worth extending some trust to them, that they might extend
trust to us again. Im sure neither they nor we want them to have to
travel around Sapience heavily guarded and armed. Its expensive for
them and uncomfortable for both them and us, but its understandable
that they need to feel safe before they can extent trust again. Anyway,
here is Overlord Estans message:

People of Sapience, I bring you greetings from the Ascendant of the
Vertani Empire. He wishes all the friendly people of Sapience health and
long life, and hopes for great friendship between our people and yours.
He also sends his most fervent hope that the monuments our people gifted
to you have proven beneficial.

I am Overlord Estan, master of the Sorathia region of Vertan, from which
our portal was established, giving me authority over the security of the
portal. I wish to explain why weve erected our fortress in the
grasslands you call Dardanic, but let me first emphasize that it is for
our protection only, and as its just a building, it poses no threat to
any of you.

We do wish to let some of you in, but we cannot do so until we establish
who our enemies are. We know that those who wish to harm us are a small
minority in your land, but being strangers, we have no way of
distinguishing between friend and foe except for experience.

Again, please rest assured that we mean no harm and do not wish this to
be seen as a threatening gesture. Once we have established our security
protocols, we will be happy to continue to meet with your diverse
peoples.

Penned by my hand on the 10th of Chronos, in the year 380 AF.
