Shame on you

This isn't really directed to all of Sapience, just some of you. Those
who have been there to support me are not included, and have my
heartfelt thanks. You know who you are.
Hashan and the Sorcerers. What a lovely pair of organizations which I
was seeking entrance to up until recently, when I was told, first by
Hashan, that I had to become unenemied to Cyrene and Shallam before even
thinking about becoming a citizen....-after- I passed a referendum 64-44
for citizenship of me. Somehow, my presence makes some of the Regents
believe those two cities friendly towards them would react otherwise
with me, an enemy of both cities, as a citizen. But, when I asked Rarch,
the Sultan of Shallam, if this was the case, his response was
(paraphrased) "Where you are citizened is none of our business." So, I
was turned down for citizenship because....why? A non-existant fear of
other cities not liking you? Regents, you sound like teenagers in this
regard. "Oh my Gods, does Shallam and Cyrene like us? They do? Yay! Oh,
we can't do -anything- to mess up this relationship...no citizening for
big bad Coran and his past of Evil and Doom, even though he's never so
much as been enemied to our city, any of our Patrons, or guilds. We have
to be liked by the rest of the world, even if its in our own heads!"
Now, obviously, that is a little exaggerated. I don't mean to simplify
the complex game of backstabbing, hedging bets, and manipulation that is
Politics. But, sometimes people need a not-so complex view of the world
to finally get it through their skulls that they may, in fact, be wrong.
Time will tell if the lesson takes.
The Sorcerers, now....I had thought I would have a better chance of
being inguilded into them than being citizened by Hashan. After all, I
may be a dumbass at times, but no one questions that I have at least a
rudimentary idea of how to fight, something the Sorcerers guild as a
whole is lacking. So, I took it upon myself that I would join their
guild and begin teaching their members my knowledge of fighting over the
past 85 years or so. Things were going smoothly after I passed the
Secretaries' referendum, and a referendum was going to be put to the
guild as a whole to vote on whether or not I could be inguilded due to
my checkered past. Of course, this is the part in the story where some
mysterious event occurs to screw me over. This time, it took the shape
of the other 3 Magi guild GMs 'threatening war' if I were inguilded.
Though, when asked, at least two of them said no war was ever
threatened, and one didn't even oppose me joining them. So, even through
this, I still had a chance. But now, of course, members of the guild,
long-standing and who have class, get a petition to stop me from being
brought into the guild, saying they would resign if I passed a
referendum. Now, first off, who the hell in their right mind as a Magi
class would go rogue on the account of -one- person being inguilded? Not
many that I know. Secondly, when I asked Tachyon about this and inquired
as to who these Sorcerers were, I got no response. Absolutely nothing. I
didn't, and still don't, know who these members were, or why they were
opposed to me. I couldn't talk to them, couldn't do anything at all. And
so, I received a message today stating that a referendum to approve my
inguilding would not happen because of these petitioners,
Now, most of you are problem saying to yourselves, if you bothered to
read this, "Who cares? It's Coran. No one likes him anyways." And you're
right, who does indeed care. Certainly not Hashan, certainly not the
Sorcerers. Maybe Mhaldor, because they might see this as a chance for
another one of their members to try and 'convert' me back. I don't even
care anymore. I'm sick of the politicking, sick of the waiting, sick of
doing EVERYTHING I can to prove I'm changed, and it doesn't mean a damn
thing to people with prejudice ingrained in their minds, some of whom
haven't even met me. So I ask this of you, Regents and Sorcerers: Why
ruin my life? Why not give me a chance? I'm a rogue, cityless Magi
class. I have absolutely nothing right now except my ideals. I was once
known, and probably still am to a lot of people, as a jackass with no
redeeming qualities about him. And it was true, I was. I'm not anymore.
All I want is a chance to prove I've changed. And you won't give it to
me, content to sit back and say "We don't give a damn if Coran's life is
screwed now. We don't want his filth!" I used to take great pleasure in
ruining others' lives, simply because I could. And I was hated for it.
What makes you any different from what I used to be by taking these
actions? Absolutely nothing.
