Closure for Rosi and Oakstone reform

Hello there,

On behalf of the Treehugger clan, I would like to express our
appreciation to Oakstone for finally setting the terms of Rosirine's
punishment for her overharvesting offenses of eleven years ago.
Although the terms were harsher than we had hoped, we look forward
to seeing her fine paid and the additional four years of enemy
status behind her. Any individual wishing to assist Rosirine in
payment of her fine to Oakstone (it is quite large, in excess of
half a million gold sovreigns) may deposit gold to the Treehuggers
account in any city bank, along with a message to Prythe, who
will be overseeing its collection and administration.

We are very heartened by Heirophant Rhakshai's assurance (see post
12369 on this board) that Oakstone is "not deadset against the idea
of looking at our laws and considering their fairness". We also
sincerely hope that her assertion that "no one ever comes to us
and says "I think we need to reform the law for x reason, let's
discuss how to do it."" is an genuine invitation for those with
the will, the intellect and the concern to do exactly that.

It is our belief that situations such as Rosirine's, as well as
the one faced by Dida Lighthawk (who mercifully was not enemied
for her own massive overharvesting error at about the same time,
we applaud Oakstone's show of leniency toward her) would not arise
but for the way that "offenses" are tabulated. It would perhaps
take only some minor tweaking of the current laws to avoid
this particular difficulty entirely, allowing Oakstone to treat
everyone the same under the law, yet avoid what seem to be nearly
ridiculously punitive measures against people who do not pose
a danger of continuing to harm to Nature.

There are other issues which we need to address as well, many of
which were pointed out by other posters on this board (12385,
12386) and those we will attempt to bring directly before the
council of Heirophants,in good faith. The Treehuggers clan will
also continue to work on behalf of people like Rosirine. Let it
be known that the protection of Nature is our first priority.
Exterminators, arsonists, and those who assist them in perpetrating
those crimes are not the focus of our concern here. The focus of our
concern is the people who live and work and bleed and sweat for the
forests, only to find themselves one day under attack by the very system
they have striven to protect, for excessively long periods of time.
Rosirine's life as a druidess was effectively ruined. Let us work
together to avoid a similar tragedy in the future.

Most sincerely,

Raelene Jaydde
