For your edification, Sapients, I post the results of my recent Apostate
guild contest. This contest stemmed from an inspirational conversation
in tells that I had with someone not of Mhaldor (You know who you are, I
thank you for your inspiration). A fragment:
-----------------------------------------------------------
<person> tells you, "Ok, a village is overrun with disease, you know the
elixir to heal them - however, it requires the use of a babies heart...
What would you do?"
You tell <person>, "Kill the baby, slaughter the village before the
disease takes them, and offer all their corpses to Lord Sartan."
-----------------------------------------------------------
My justification in the Truths for this position is Truth Two, using
cruelty to weed out the weak and feeble-minded, and Truth Six, whence I
can strengthen myself by inflicting pain. (See 'help Sartan' or Public
news 2095 for the precise wording of the Truths.)
The contest was to find another answer to this person's question. I've
anonymized the answers below, as I've noted that some in this realm tend
to discriminate against Mhaldorians, and I wouldn't wish it upon any of
my fellow Apostates that they meet any who display this loathsome form
of spiritual weakness.
The winner in the full Apostate category, winning five credits:
-----------------------------------------------------------
You find a beautiful young daughter of one of the villagers, one who is
still healthy and not disease ridden, rape her until she is with child.
When she has the child, kill it, rip out its heart, create the elixer
and force it down the throat of every citizen. When the citizens recover
thier strength and come to greet and thank you, slay them all and offer
thier corpses to Lord Sartan. For even the strong cannot stand to a
Sartai, for we have been chosen to cleanse this world of the weak in
mind, body and spirit.
I did this for the same reason as you preacher, to weed out the weak and
feeble-minded. I only gave them a sense of false hope and security,
which some might call cruelty. And as I was taught by Sartan himself,
Evil is Cruelty.
Again, Hail Lord Sartan, may he someday devour every weak person from
the face of this earth.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The winner in the Droch category, winning an assortment of useful herbs:
-----------------------------------------------------------
If I'd come into the situation where I could save an entire village with
a baby's heart, I'd kill the baby, take its heart, make the elixir and
give the villagers the choice to either die by their desease...or swear
complete servitute to our Lord Sartan for the rest of their life in
exchange for the saving elixir.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The winner in the Malefic category, winning a set of robes, sewn by me:
-----------------------------------------------------------
It is unclear whether the villagers are weak minded or not. Therefore I
would test their resolve by asking them to sacrifice their young. If
they accept, kill the baby in front of them and give them the elixer.
Watch them witness the death of their young to save their own souls.
However, as their willingness to kill their own young, whom they are
intrusted to protect, for their own skins, is cowardice, I would procede
to have the entire town slaughtered. Those who cling to such a pitiful
life and fear the release of death shall have their corpses sacrificed
to our Lord Sartan. If they refuse to have their young slaughtered to
save their own souls then they will have showed some measure of courage
in facing their own death. Death through disease is not an easy thing.
The strong who survive shall have the honour of letting Lord Sartan kill
them at his own pleasure, The weak shall not survive and all the corpses
will be sacrificed to Lord Sartan.
-----------------------------------------------------------
There were also some other intriguing entries, to which I awarded a
credit each:
-----------------------------------------------------------
I would kill all the babies and take all their hearts - Truth 6
I would tell all the villiagers I had the hearts - Truth 2
I would ask all the villigers to try to kill me to get back the hearts -
Truth 7 (having an entire village attack you by your own designs is
rather a self-imposed hardship)
I would slaughter all the villigers I could whom attacked me - Truth 5
By trying to kill me the strong would survive and the weak would get
killed - So I would be spuring on the strong as per Truth 1
In doing all the above I would be Eliminating weakness in all its 3
forms - Truth 3
If the villagers attack me one at a time or in groups and lack
discipline to attack as a group they would die - So proving to be Strong
you need to have Discipline - Truth 4.
I would have, before they attacked me, have given all the hearts to the
paranah fishes to eat - if someone thinks that by killing me they will
save a pathetic village of desease ridden people - then they are most
febble minded and and deserve to be weeded out and die. Truth 2. I like
Truth 2. Cause them pain.
-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
my solution in this situation is : If that village has nothing to do to
achive my goal to greatness, i'll just let that village and the
villagers die. But if that village would be a way to get what i want,
sure why not - i'll kill those babies and offer the corpses to Lord
Sartan.
If you would not get anything from what you are going to do, why waste
your time doing them.
-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
I would slay the babies and create the cure. In Village I massacre and
offer childrens to our lord. I give promise to cure last man or woman
standing if others die violently and their corpses are offered. When all
but one are dead I will strip to clothes of dead and leave them laying
near paths of our enemies. Last man or woman I will take with me to
nearest village to spread the disease, I carry on until I reach the very
foundations of Shallam and let the disease rage. The strongest of the
villagers I brought along the way will get cure but only enough for one
person, one who seizes and shows no sign of regret it will my vouch to
be enslaved by Mhaldor.
My Justifications. Slaying childrens is definitely action of cruelty and
truth two: Cruelty Application of pain - is the method by which one
weeds out the weak and feeble-minded from population. Letting rest of
the villagers die but one can also by justified by same truth as they
are too weak to either resist disease or get a cure to it. Spreading the
disease to other villages and to Shallam comes from oath "I stand here
wishing to better myself and advance life around me, by encouraging
strengths and removing weakness. As those who die because they cant or
doesnt want to make cure are weak. As for those Shallams who would cure
themselves they would have to abandon their believes, either way evil
stands triumphant. As for the last man or woman, if he does all what is
asked and survies it shows great great promise on truths two and three.
But if shown any sign of regret his or hers reward is dead as such thing
is sign of weakness, as says Apocrypha chapter three verce 7 "Neither
shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the
dead neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for
their father or for their mother. as it is written " Evil is my
lawgiver".
-----------------------------------------------------------
For the greater glory of Lord Sartan,
and the ravishment and obliteration of those who reject His Truths.
