My dear, sweet Valnurana, Mistress of Dreams,
It wounds Me deeply that You would think to doubt the depth of My
loyalty to You or any of My allies. Know, My dear, that I am as faithful
to You as I am to Myself.
If there is one thing that You ought to know about Me... it is that I am
Machiavellian. The ends always justify the means. I always take
calculated risks, and in this most recent plot... after an extensive
cost-benefit analysis... I determined that the Eye was to be destroyed.
In the Eye's long history it has been the heart of much treachery - from
the Great Betrayal of the Triumvirate all the way to these modern times.
During My long, long association with the Eye, I learned that it was
"the Will" behind many of the duplicities and infidelities that have
plagued Us for all these Eons.
As You know, I first gained the Eye during the Great War, and even in
those early days the Eye was working... In an effort to better
understand this awesome artifact, I traded it to Sartan for a small
bauble - the Orb of Nascency.
Sartan, of course, felt that he was getting an uneven exchange - in his
favour. When Sartan gained possession of the artifact, I studied his
actions carefully. My conclusion about the nature of the Eye, in My
opinion, has been vindicated. Simply look at the depths of vileness the
Malevolent One has sunk to since he has had it? I needn't say more.
Perhaps, during My time with the Eye, I too was corrupted... I do not
know. I KNOW this though - the Eye needed to be destroyed.
I had determined to do just that when Sartan assaulted You... but alas,
I did not have the wherewithal to do so... until now.
Eris' experiments coupled with Your use of the Eye and My rituals with
Indrani and Sartan taught Me much about that nefarious artifact's
nature. When I learned what I needed to do to ensure that the Eye never
touched the light of day again, I acted. In the end, the means have been
justified.
If You wish to know more about My reasons, sweet Lady of Dreams, I
implore You to meet Me in council... it has been long since I have known
the pleasure of Your company and I yearn for it.
I miss you My dear,
In Darkness,
