Andreous,
Things alter for the worse spontaneously, if they be not altered for the
better designedly.
I am going to clarify a few issues as I see them in regards to War.
War is the ultimate test of strength, intelligence, and character. In
War, you see the inner strength of people; you see them for what they
truly are and what they are capable of. War is not the senseless
slaughter of individuals that some people would make it out to be.
Indeed, you said it yourself "the reality of war is that life is
precious and should be held dear." War makes people stronger and brings
them closer together, whether celebrating in victory, or clinging to
each other in defeat. Wars are fought for a cause, Andreous. War is the
advocate of change, and the harbinger of progress. I ask you, Andreous,
is it not through War that one can truly appreciate that which you would
call peace? Indeed, isn't it the Wars between Ashtan and Shallam that
you have to thank for the city of Cyrene?
The difference I see, is that We, as Aegeans, accept, embrace and glory
in these things, while you would simply abandon your ethos in order to
take part in it.
"In war we fight to win and to survive, thus when a formal war is
declared, the Warden and his Keepers' adherence to the strict code we
rely on to strengthen us is removed till peace or truce is called...
then once again we must atone to ourselves for our breaking from
traditions."
He who rejects change is the architect of decay. The only human
institution which rejects progress is the cemetery.
