Fate

What is Fate? There are many different opinions on what Fate is. Some
say it is the predetermined map of one's life. Others say it is the
framework for the way one's future will develop. Some think Fate is
merely death, an end which comes to all mortal things, while others
argue that Fate is a daily influence on all mortal things.

Fate and her sister Destiny have long been the contemplation of many,
from scholars and poets, to wanderers and vagabonds, to Overseers and
Sultans and Seneschals and all rulers from all times and territories.
Fate can be anything and everything that it has been called. Two paths
diverge in a wood. Both seemingly the same, though each obviously leads
to a different place and two more paths. Life is made up of these paths,
though not all of them are decided by you. When you were born, two paths
lay in front of you. One was Life, the other was Death. Some walk the
path of Life, others meet their end very suddenly in Death. You walk
your paths, taking whichever one you choose, until you make a mistake,
and meet your end. You die, are granted life again by the Logos, and
return to Life to resume walking your paths, until you make a wrong turn
again, and are set back at the beginning. But is it Fate that makes you
walk these paths, that sets you on the course for success and power, or
failure and misery? Or do you, yourself, make your own decision?

Consider Fate as that little whispering voice in the back of your mind,
that pushes you ever so slightly to one path or the other. According to
your past experiences and conditioning, you may be inclined to take one
path over the other. And if you do not take the path the little whisper
has suggested to you, perhaps you have eluded your true Fate, for a
short time. But Fate is eternal, unwavering, and continually
everlasting. It is permanent, and cannot be escaped.

Consider yourself as several strands tied together to make one complete
being. One strand is Good, the other is Evil, one is Chaos, one is
Order, one is Light, one is Dark, one is Knowledge, one is Ignorance,
one is Peace, one is War, but the strand that holds all of the other
strands together, the one that holds you together as a being, is Fate.
You are tied to your Fate, as it is tied to you, and never shall you
escape it. The strand of Fate cannot be cut, until your life is
permanently and eternally ended. And then, your Fate is only death.

Some Fate is predetermined from your birth. Some Fate you decide
yourself with the paths you take, the choices you make, and the lives
you break. Some Fate is conditional, some is unconditional. So what is
Fate? I am the answerer of questions and the questioner of answers, and
I invite all who wish to speak on this matter, to speak.
