And The People Cheered

Within a tranquil valley beyond the snow and ice
Resided a people who seemed friendly, kind, nice
Beneath the pleasant facades lay a hideous vice
For these people had secrets

A darkness spread across the land threatening all
Within that valley men, women, and children to fall
The people rallied then worked to survive death's pall
And the people rejoiced

There were burials as they rose to heights yet again
Curious, kind, with arts, dances, chatting, and fightin'
As time passed and they thrived from season to season
And the people rejoiced

A Divine awoke and they quickly changed their tune
Peaceful people wielded weapons with fights soon
The Divine's foes became theirs within a few moons
And the people rejoiced

A threatening young Atavian child who wanted to fly and thrive
Wings torn because she dared to be born of all things... alive
Bind them! Break them! Condemn her for her will to survive
And the people rejoiced

For those who are reading this poem, think for a time
Whether these words pierce your heart as they did mine
Regardless wherever you are, killing children is a crime
And will you rejoice if it is yours this time?

Penned by my hand on the 16th of Aeguary, in the year 978 AF.
