The Good Lesson

It was a long trek for the priest that week
Past fields where plowed farmers very meek
Distance passed with the sun overhead high
There! The manor of the lord he did seek

A warm welcome as was befitting one so high
Then it was that they sat down together nigh
A discourse was had as the lord disagreed
With the priest who discussed Good to a sigh

"You are foolish," the lord said and disagreed
"Tis folly to think of such a thing we need
Why not stay content and let the cards fall
Why bother with fighting for such we cannot see?"

A hint of a smile as the priest heard of fall
Then he leaned forward and placed a wager before all
"If you really believe your very own words
Then let us back them since my bluff you would call.

Exist on only what you need as stated by your words
Have your farmers sow only what the need, no worse
Do nothing to do more than attempt to survive
Prepare for nothing more and exist without profit of purse."

The lord was confident and readily agreed to survive
While the priest observed from where he remained alive
The year passed and the lord looked at his bounty low
At his people who looked like they had been deprived

At the end of the year the priest returned to a lord low
Who placed his hands on the table and looked ragged so
"There were no innovations, no room for growth, nothing.
We existed and only that. What a fool I was. Please go."

The priest went to rise and go before he heard nothing.
"What you experienced is a taste of what would be happening
If we did not fight to remove those who hinder Good
To help in your recovery I left behind something."

When the priest had gone and the lord was left with Good
On his mind, he went to face his people as he would
He taught them of the lesson they had learned that year
Of what Good is, and what they learned or at least should!

Penned by my hand on the 9th of Daedalan, in the year 907 AF.
