Coyote

Hear the howl of the coyote
echoing inside the dusty rocks.
A timeless tremble
through the desert sky,

it is carried away
on wings of wind
through whirling sands

fading into the cold cry of night.

Bleached bones mark the site
where comfort closed to cuddling cubs
in elemental seclusion

and they stood
stifling the yawn of the young
in clarion calls
for freedom

before they disappeared
across the dry grasses

leaving behind
the scent of their spirit.

Penned by my hand on the 23rd of Aeguary, in the year 451 AF.
