Forgotten Dinner at Sahart

Beneath this famous awning,
Amongst the crowded tables
You swore that you would love me
To the best that you were able

Together we went, with your hand in mine,
We followed as Nirala led us to our table
Where our placed were set with linen fine
And Ankur waited with a ready smile

A feast was laid out before us,
Presented all with elegance and style
Red, juicy strawberries and cream
Succulent oysters fresh from the delta
This all seems like some dream

In the flickering candlelight, we pretended to eat
While through lowered lashes, we watched each other
Nibble with careful lips on another, sedulous treat
Secretly wishing, but too shy to do another

You take a bite of the lamb
And the juice slips down your chin
I lean forward, on some strange whim
To lick it off, but with a simple shift
Our lips meet, and my eyes grow dim

I must confess, you swept me off my feet
Rather literally with that breathtaking spin
To Isten's lively music, and driving beat
I'll always smile and remember when
You asked Isten for one more repeat

The tables stand abandoned now,
The breeze whisks around empty chairs
I look back at the time and wonder how
It all ended, with only the wind in my hair
To caress me with her cold fingers
While the scent of you still lingers
Within my memory.

Penned by my hand on the 10th of Phaestian, in the year 389 AF.
