The Inherent Truths of Purpose

The Rockslide

Why does the waterfall?
clinging to moss in dewy diamonds
that hang like earrings
cascading over the stony crests
in liquid freefall crystals
crashing into deep pools of itself
distorting reflection
'Twould no sooner climb a wall
ivy green and sprawling
than hover motionless o'er a flower
windswept

Why does the dragonfly?
beating scaly wings like thunder
a tympani of wyrms
blowing a furnace fumerole
in baritone melody
basking in lustrous golden hoard
of tinkling coin
'Twould be most unlizardlike
to mew and lap at milk
with barbed tail flicking
gaily

Why does the orangepeel?
curling golden ringlets
sweating citrus perfume
covering the cottony pith
so soft and application
collecting candied segments
in a coordinated ensemble
'Twould be faux pas
to take a bite
before disrobing
wholly

Every candle has a light
Even fallen rain can bow
Does the mountain wonder why?
When the rockslide
happens
