You may hear a howl from overhead
When the night is deep and black.
We are the Avilupes
And we run with no wolf pack.

We are not common wolves,
Though bred from Lupine loin.
We serve our masters faithfully.
We are not bought by coin.

We herd the master's sheep.
We guard them from all harm.
We protect them with our bodies.
We give the first alarm.

We are the shepherd's brother.
We are the shepherd's steed.
We are the flock's defender,
For them we fight and bleed.

We protect our master's charges,
On the land or in the air.
The predators become our prey.
We hunt them to their lair.

And though we call them master,
We both know, in the end,
That we are equal partners.
That our name is truly Friend.

We soar above the trees
With our master on our back.
We are the Avilupes
And we run with no wolf pack.
