Poetry News Post #2146

Sometimes, life disappoints you, and sometimes, you disappoint yourself

Regret
------

Well, what is past is past;
The dark night passes away
And a new morning dawns.
Old regrets and sorrows
Must now be left behind
In the day that comes.
What must be, must be,
For nothing ever changes,
Nor does it stay the same
And all my glowing hopes
Should not change reality.
I wish I could be more--
That nothing held me back,
Or stopped my lips, or
Kept me from being myself.
That I was not such a waste
Stealing away others' time.
A fool's wish, to be sure,
But regret can never die
It lingers like a shadow
Even as another day dawns,
And the rest of the world
Beholds the newly risen sun.

Penned by my hand on the 11th of Miraman, in the year 377 AF.
