Seafaring

Tecton and I have been hard at work recently finishing up the remaining
Seafaring abilities. We've added numerous others along the way as well,
such as Rigging, which allows you to climb up to the Riggings level of
ship deck rooms, similar to the Trees elevation in forests, and Dodging,
a passive ability to help you dodge anti-personnel ammunition fired at
your ship. To be honest, Seafaring coding is rather fun and we could
dream up new abilities to add to it forever, but we have many other
projects awaiting our attentions and we're going to have to stop here
for now.

So, without further ado, Seafaring is now being released as a general
skill which must be learned. Those of you who have become accustomed to
having full access to Seafaring during testing, well, you were warned!
In order to learn Seafaring, you must obtain a Fully Attested Marque of
Unquestioned Seaworthiness (a.k.a. a F.A.M.O.U.S.). Ship owners have
already been granted fully attested marques. Those of you who wish to
gain a F.A.M.O.U.S. must obtain a blank marque from Maelstrom at the
Tasur'ke harbour and get it fully attested. Instructions are in HELP
MARQUES.

As you learn in Seafaring, you will have to decide how to spend your
Seafaring Promotional Points in various specialisations. The
specialisation system, designed by Clementius early on in Seafaring
design, is something new that we've never done before for any other
skill. There are over 50 abilities in Seafaring total across all
specialisations, but depending on your specialisation, you will only
have access to a portion of them at any given time. You can change
specialisations by visiting the various Seafaring Specialists. HELP
SEAFARING and HELP SEAFARING SPECIALISTS will tell you more about that.

Please help us out and submit detailed BUG reports of any bugs you find.
If you do find any, please include the word "seafaring" in the bug
report somewhere, anywhere, so that we can bring up those bugs easily by
searching for that word.

- Good example: "I tried the invoke rainstorm seaspell in Seafaring
while shipmelded at the bow of my ship (ship #5) and got the message
'Might I suggest trying again?'"
- Not-so-good example: "I tried to invoke rainstorm while shipmelded at
the bow of my ship (ship #5) and got the message 'Might I suggest trying
again?'"
- Poor example: "I tried to invoke rainstorm and nothing happened."

Onward!
