Tithed Suffering: The Reckoning of Hope and Tyranny
A quiet tremor passed through Creation, its resonance gently blossoming as Sapience paused to listen.
Across distant lands, sidereal lenses rooted upon ancient landmarks stirred from dormancy, their light kindling once more as threads of argent radiance and crimson fire stretched between them. Scattered awakenings soon resolved into something deliberate as a vast constellation imposed upon the world itself.
With it came the Lightbringer’s decree, “What was sundered shall be remembered. What was forgotten shall be restored. These are the instruments of remembrance. The conduits by which My Memory, and that of My Twin, shall be unveiled. Choose alignment with My Hope or His Tyranny, though each shall exact its own measure of Suffering.”
Adventurers rose to meet the call. Drawn to these loci of power, they undertook trials of offering, insight, and endurance, each lens demanding its due. Those bound to Hope and those beholden to Tyranny vied to awaken the lenses and lay claim to their purpose, with Tyranny gaining the upper hand.
Each lens, yearning for the tithes bound to its ancient landmark, thrummed with power as adventurers answered their silent demands. Death, dragons, and the antlers of stags were laid forth beside words of veiled wit; while butterflies, honed skills, devout prayers, and the gathered essences of light and dark were rendered in kind. One by one, the lenses were empowered, and when the final thread was drawn taut, the constellation sent forth its reply: in the desert, reality fractured.
A Singularity emerged, an unstable convergence of ruin and radiance, shifting between gravitational collapse and sidereal fury. It was a culmination, a final trial in Suffering shaped by all that had come before. Those who had proven themselves at the lenses stood against it. Through coordination, resolve, and force of arms, they endured its shifting forms and brought it low.
With the Singularity’s fall, the gathered energies surged skyward, converging at the crown of Uphimmin and rendering the lenses naught more than stardust. Upon the world tree, argent light and crimson flame were brought into accord for a final revelation. The Lightbringer awarded Sapience with the dichotomous memories of Ethian and Abbadon, bearing within it life and death, and the memory of Her inseverable, if embattled, bond with Her Twin, Apollyon.
