Mortal Builders in Achaea
22.1 Mortal Builders in Achaea
Becoming a Mortal Builder ------------------------- An announcement will be made when we are accepting mortal builder applications. You must be at least 18 years old IRL to apply. What It's Like -------------- If you are considering applying to become a mortal builder for Achaea, keep the below in mind: Being a builder in Achaea is not like being a builder on many text games (muds). You do not become an immortal. Instead, we grant you limited powers for creating new rooms and items. Building is not easy. It has great rewards and can be very satisfying, creatively. Our standards for building are quite rigorous, and we insist on excellence in writing quality. Each newly accepted builder will go through a training period before assisting in new areas. Credit rewards are given on a case-by-case basis for various building projects, depending on scope, speed, quality, and other factors. Application Process ------------------- [1] Send a blank email to builderguidelines@achaea.com. You will receive the current guidelines for submitting a mortal builder application. They include writing 3 room descriptions that must be entirely free of errors (see HELP STYLE). If you can't manage to write 3 error-free room descriptions, how will you handle an area of 100 rooms or more? Send your actual application to builders@achaea.com. [2] Wait until you hear back from us. This may take a while, depending on the backload. If your application is approved, then you will be made a mortal builder trainee. [3] Once you are promoted from trainee to builder status, you will be given more responsibilities in area creation. [4] After further successes, you may be permitted to create and submit a proposal for an area of your own to build. This proposal would include: a) A general description of the area, including a history of the area, and possible tie-ins to existing history. b) A paragraph or so describing why you think your proposed area would be a valuable addition to Achaea. c) Approximately how many rooms you will need. d) A list of the mobiles in the area, and approximately how many there will be of each. e) A general description of quests you'd like to have in the area. If you make it to this point as a builder, you will be given more specific instructions on how to write up an area proposal. Although we are always looking for good ideas, we should warn you that there are no guarantees that an area proposal will be approved.
