Sigh

Kail, you and every other member of the Church need to offer up prayers
for people like Furensio. In the constant defense of one's faith does
true steadiness and solidity of belief form. As a dear friend would
agree, to be true a sword must be forged through searing flames.
Who knows? Perhaps if there was no constant force of opposition
(admittedly sometimes provided by yours truly) to justify the basis of
the Codex and reassert its definitions of "Us" (the good guys) and
"Them" (the bad guys), the entire system might crumble slowly over your
heads.
But gosh darn it, you guys make it too easy for us!
I found Furensio's post vastly entertaining, mostly because his logical
analysis presented a tangible interpretation of the Codex. This is not
to say that it was the INTENDED interpretation. That would be ludicrous.
His reasons for writing it are of no import, though the scholastic
excellence of the post would be alone sufficient to grant him my
sponsorship OR guildfavour in the Occultists. (Just to get the selfish
intent out of the way)
What he did was take the written word and turn it into a working model.
This is precisely what the Church has done with its own interpretation
of the Codex. Furensio formulated a set of logical conclusions stemming
from statements which admittedly hold many potential interpretations. He
left the field wide open for anyone with a good grasp of the Church to
go in and defend the codex with equally scathing and precise logical
statements. After all, it is quite obvious that since such staggering
views could be logically derived from pages written with an opposing
intent, surely the material to defend the actual intent would abound?
Instead, all the defense of the Codex centered around "You are wrong
because we said so". Instead of laughing at the words of Furensio and
others who undertake similar tasks, you laugh at the writer. Not a
single logical point is counter-argued, not a single fact is brought up.
"We make mistakes" , "We're trying"... What kind of a bloody defense is
that?
I'm almost wishing Aldair would have responded to this. Even if she does
kick me out of Shallam at times, she at least can defend her words with
facts instead of throwing around more sarcastic, grinning, internally
fuming words that say much and mean little.
Oh, and Kail? You might be amused to know that there is another
organization in Sapience which in the past adhered to a strict code
which was only applicable to its members. (The Us-Them model).
Interestingly enough, this organization also possessed a strict
religious/hierarchial structure, though it was monotheistic, unlike the
Church's slightly wider Pantheon.
What's even funnier is that this organization was indirectly responsible
for Deucalion's passing.
