The Venom Treaty

Greetings,

I find most subjects I wish to discuss, not of
interest to the majority of the public, so it is
rare that I use this forum. In this instance,
I believe it is necessary.

A short time ago I was approached by Serthest,
Guildmaster of the Serpentlords. He informed
me that Cyrene had shopowners violating the venom
treaty. I reminded him that Cyrene has never
entered into this treaty. He asked me if Cyrene
would. I told him that I would ask the shopkeepers
to set the venom prices per vial at 2000 gold, but
I would not punish a shopkeeper for pricing venom
at a lower price. In addition I explained why, I
informed him that there were promises made during
the venom conference, that have never came about.
Serthest tole me that the serpent guilds were
drafting a revised treaty. I stated that I thought
it was a good idea and maybe Cyrene's refusal would
put more force behind this motion.

I ask a question, why was there a venom conference
and a subsequent venom treaty? Having never been
a serpent, I can only guess. But my belief was that
it was to protect the serpent class. I agree and
accept that.

I'll use Xandor's name, as he was the one that was
the most vocal at the conference. Now, whether these
were his beliefs or this was an effort to get the
guilds and cities to buy into his plan, I doubt anyone
will ever know. But, they are words that Xandor spoke
during the Venom Conference and directly led to the
Venom Treaty. I was present and taking notes in the
Paladin Guildmaster's stead. I had to dig a bit through
my old ratty journal, but I was able to find those notes.

During the Conference these were some of the statements
made. I offer addition comment after the statements.

....Xandor: "All locks will be removed from all the
....milking rooms."

....Xandor: "And a public milking room is likely."

Do I feel that the milking rooms should be left open? I
believe that is up to each guild. But what these
statements brought the support of the Rogues. We have
yet to see a public milking room.

....Xandor: "Milking will cost the milker gold per dose."

....Decan: "Xandor lemme git this straight, we have to
....pay for our own venom milkings now?"

....Me: "As we pay for forging commodities, the serpent
....class will relatively soon, be paying to milk?"

....Xandor: "We will. It'll be part of the code, Decan.
....It won't be much, but it will discourage serpents from
....doing free refills."

Do I feel that Serpents should be charged gold per dose
milked? That is for our Logos to determine. But what
this statement did, was lead those at the conference to
believe that 2000 gold per vial was a fair price. Is it
now, knowing that the Serpents do not pay gold per does?
That is up to each individual to determine, when they
purchase the venoms. Particularly in a Free Market
Enterprise.

.....Xandor: "Venom refills are up to the individual."

.....Xandor: "We won't try to enforce those."

It's truly up to the individual guild's leadership as to
what prices individual's charge. I could be wrong, but
I believe each Serpent guild has a set of guidelines
they enforce amongst their guildmembers. But what these
statements did, was gain support by the majority of the
Serpents.

If you have managed to have gotten this far, the treaty
was actually posted at Public 7709. If you wish to
read it. It's quite simplistic and leaves out the
information I have provided.

Why am I compelled to post?

After having said all of the above, I will let you know
that because of the act of refusal, their has been a
theft in Cyrene from a shopkeeper that had his venom
prices set at 1500 per vial. This really was not the
wisest course of action in my eyes. If you wish for
Cyrene to come to a new Venom Conference and hash out
a new treaty, does stealing from a shop within the
city foster good relations?

The leaders of the cities, the Knight guilds and the
Serpent guild's entered into this treaty, taking Xandor's
word in good faith. Have the statements made during this
conference been acted upon and become fact?

Has the good faith that caused this treaty to be ratified
been renigged upon?

If you feel that they have not, then speak to your city
leaders and guild leaders. Maybe a time for change has
come, maybe it has not. But you as members of the guilds
and citizens of the cities are the ones that need to
voice your approval or disapproval to your leaders.

I respectfully request that the one who took these venoms
from Obitus, find a mediator to speak with him. If he is
willing to price his venoms in his shop at 2000 gold per
vial, in good faith, then return them to him. Stealing
from him did little to foster good relations.

I would like to enter into any further negotiations with
the Serpent Guilds and City Leaders, in regards to venoms,
with this action having been corrected.

I Thank those of you that have suffered through my long-
winded missive and have managed to get this far.

Algiz protect you!
