The Chrysalis Basilica's stance on Chaos

To understand why the Church stands against the encroachment of Chaos in
Creation, it must first be understood what exactly Chaos is. Contrary to
the statements of those who declare themselves followers of Chaos, Chaos
is not the fount from which all flows. That distinction belongs to
Sarapis alone. From Him all things come, including Chaos.
No, the truth of the matter is that two seperate realms were created.
Creation, in which Achaea is located, and the realm from which Chaos
spawns. "One, the realm we know, was filled with a multitude of planes
and universes, each with its own set of physical and immutable laws. The
other was a realm of pure chaos and was anathema to Creation." Creation,
and all the various things in it, of which are included structure,
order, comprehensible thought, logic, did not come from Chaos. Chaos
entered into creation for the first time when the Unnameable Horror
entered the rift and raped Maya. "As well as we may know, a being of
incomprehensible structure entered Creation from somewhere outside and
began wandering" Entered Creation from somewhere OUTSIDE. Clearly, prior
to this first taste of Chaos, Creation did in fact exist. One could call
this state prior to the infection of Chaos, perfection, as it was
"Lacking nothing essential to the whole; complete of its nature or
kind." The introduction of Chaos changed this, bringing uncertainty and
confusion to that which was perfect, such as divine wars: The entire War
of Humanity had simply been a way for Discord and Entropy to gain a
foothold in our existence. Chaos is, as stated earlier, the "anathema to
Creation", a poison to Creation as it were. Beings of focused Chaos
nearly lead to the total unraveling of Creation, those beings referred
to as entropy and discord in the history of the realm. Only the
intervention of Ayar prevented this destruction: "Ayar knew that he had
to act quickly, or his creations would be destroyed". The dispersal of
these two beings was akin to the dillution of poison. No longer was the
Chaos concentrated enough to actually unravel, or destroy Creation, only
enough to change it somewhat.
Now, to fully explain the 'why' behind this effect of Chaos on Creation
is beyond the scope of this post, but what is clear is that the
introduction of Chaos to something that is of Creation irrevocably
changes that thing. The effect cannot be reversed and slowly as that
which is Creation is changed into that which is Chaos. Unpredicatable,
unfathomable, incomprehensible. Think of it as a great building of
stone. It has form, structure, and all of its components have a purpose.
This is Creation. Introduce to this building acid, or some other
corrosive element. Slowly the building is eaten away - perhaps in small
ways, or ways that create some temporarily lovely design - but that
which has been affected by the acid cannot be replaced. Eventually, when
enough of the building is eaten away, the structural integrity is
compromised and it falls in on itself. When pure Chaos changes
something, it is tainted, it can not be reversed, because the sheer
presence of chaos, that sense of randomness, prevents absolute certainty
in removing it. Further, the greater the concentration of Chaos, the
larger the taint, and the faster it spreads.
When Servelan merged with the Unnameable Horror, a being of focused
Chaos once more entered Creation. This once again brought about a threat
to Creation itself. Because that threat comes in the form of a random,
and, oft times amusing, Goddess does not lessen the threat, but indeed
increases it. Mortals will embrace this facade, not understanding that
they are embracing nothing less than the destruction of Creation itself.
It has nothing to do with happy clowns or cute bunnies. The randomness
of clowns most likely comes from chaos which was introducted with the
dispersal of Entropy and Discord. The entropy and discord dispersed
through Creation is chaos, while the focussed energies introduced
unnaturally to this world are Chaos, that which is Eris. Any attempts to
convince mortals of the laughter of children being Her influence is
merely an attempt to lower their defenses so that Chaos can continue its
mission of changing Creation into a reflection of itself - not only
unhindered, but praised.
Ironically enough, pure Chaos, that which we strive against, does indeed
bring freedom. Total freedom. Freedom from sanity. Freedom from
comprehensible thought. Freedom from logic. Freedom from clarity.
Freedom from the very things mortals need to survive. And the ultimate
freedom of death. It is not the creativity of humans - that came from
entropy and discord, an inherent part of that race which cannot be
undone. Indeed, of the Chaos realm, the histories tell us this when
referring to entropy and discord: "they originate from a place where
names have no meaning; where organized thought is not known and where
the mortal mind would be rendered instantly insane were one unfortunate
enough to experience it" and of the reaction to a mortal mind to being
introduced to this pure chaos? "The Aldar began to die as their minds
were overwhelmed by forces alien to Creation." Given the choice between
this, and Creation, most will undoubtedly choose Creation.
